3 Months in Japan Series: "14 Days in Kyoto"

March 15, 2023

 Helooo!

#3monthsinjapanseries is back with the story "14 days in Kyoto".

If you haven't read 14 Days in Osaka yet, don't forget to check it out.

How to go Kyoto?

From Osaka it takes around an hour to go to Kyoto by train. Or maybe more it depends on the train that you choose.

Where did we stay?

We stay at Hotel M's Est Nanajo near Shichijo station. It's also close to Kyoto station. In my personal opinion this hotel also nice because they have a strategic location and of course you don't need to worry about food! Across this hotel there's a seven eleven and fruits store, Mcd, cafes, and restaurants nearby.

Top Attractiions

In Kyoto we went out almost everyday. So I couldn't really recall all the places that we visited. But here some list for your reference:

  • Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Togetsu-kyo bridge, Tenryuji, Gioji
  • Fushimi Inari Taisha
  • Kiyomizudera
  • Gion District
  • Nishiki Market
  • Kyoto Imperial Palace
  • Yasaka shrine, Philosopher's path, Eikan-do temple etc.
Kyoto is very relaxing and nice. It's so cultural and have so many temples to visit. It was still cold when we arrived in Kyoto (end of January-February) but it won't reduce the magical feeling that you'll experience.

Based on our experience, Kyoto is a bit more expensive for the food cost compare to Osaka and Tokyo.  But you always have option to buy bento in a combini (convenient store) or just buy food like Yoshinoya, Sukiya etc.

What we eat in Kyoto?
Basically we mixed between buying bento in a combini, snacking, fastfood and restaurants. For your reference:

Gyukatsu Kyoto - My Fave

Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu
  • Bento in a combini cost around JPY 600/portion
  • Beef bowl in Sukiya/Yoshinoya cost around JPY 600/pax
  • Mcd bigmac set cost around JPY 650/pax
  • Burger King set around JPY 400/pax
  • Kfc set cost around JPY 1000/pax
  • If you eat in a foodcourt it will cost around min. JPY 1000/pax
  • Well if it's in a restaurant it depends on what you order. They usually have a lunch or dinner set. Better to order set menu than a la carte.

Here is the food that we tried in Kyoto:
  • Fast-food yep Mcd, Burger King, Yoshinoya, Sukiya etc.
  • Soba noodleswe ate this soba noodles in a food court near Kyoto station. Well Soba is not my favorite afterall :(
  • Halal Ramen Ayam-ya. This is my fave ofc because it's halal and the moment I slurped the spicy ramen, it's just so yummy :D
  • Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu. This one also my fave. It's crispy outside and rare inside but you can grilled to make it well done. It's so good.
Please take a note that Kyoto is famous for their Matcha. Esp. Uji Matcha. If you come to visit Kyoto you'll see Matcha everywhere. For dessert-lover Kyoto is your heaven. Trust me hahaha as I enjoyed my time so much for those desserts. Yum!

Konpeito from Kyoto is famous

It was so nice to be in Kyoto. Seeing people with their Yukata walking around the temple or the road it's just magical. Don't forget about the rest of the snow on the roof. Adding  nice details for your picture and video  :D

I'll add the pics and video that we made in Kyoto later. For now please enjoy the pics of the food :D

I'll be back with another post!
