How's life in Bali? We're being spoiled!

September 18, 2022

Ola!

Today we're gonna write about our #lifeinbaliseries.

As you may know currently we're in Bali and probably we're gonna stay here until the end of the year.

Tbh, we're expecting Japan to open soon (fully opened without any test or landed guided tour) but let's see. If they don't fully opened until the beginning of the year then we might postpone. We probably travel to some other countries in Asia to explore more. (Update: Japan is open now yeeha let's go!)

Life in Bali

But for now we're enjoying our life in Bali. We will watch Kecak dance performance this weekend. Can't wait!

We'll tell you about the dance performance in our next post.

Today let's show you what am I doing everyday as a  traveler's wife :P

Morning routine

In the morning I always prepare breakfast for my hubby and the easiest way to prepare just cereal and a cup of coffee :D.

Then we will go to exercise and spend the time in the swimming pool until lunch time.

My morning view everyday

I usually just read or do an online window shopping :D  very common!

After that I usually prepare lunch. My hubby is a bule (foreigner) but he likes Indonesian cuisine :D

So I'll post some Indonesian food that he likes. I know some of them are spicy and you probably dislike spicy food but why don't you try while you're here. As we said before

Been there, done that and tried the food! :D

1. Nasi Padang

Have you ever tried Rendang? They said it's  the most delish food in the world :D It's spicy but it's so good. You should try Nasi Padang. It's a rice combination with vegetables, Sambal and you can choose the meat. Our fave is Rendang (Beef) or Chicken with coconut. Very recommended.

2. Mie Aceh

It's actually noodles from Aceh (city in Indonesia). If you  have a chance to try it in Aceh like me. You'll  understand. It was so good! I even wanted to go back to Aceh just to try the coffees and the food there. One day I'll be back. But if you don't have the chance yet just try to eat the noodles just search Mie Aceh you'll find so many options. I prefer fried noodles tho.

3. Martabak Manis & Martabak Telor

Martabak manis is a sweet dessert. It's like a pancake but bigger n thicker. Try Martabak Terang Bulan it's very famous. You can try the chocolate, cheese milk. :D crazy combination. High Cal but you should try while you're here.

As for Martabak telor is like omelets but they mixed it with veggies and meat. It's also very good. Give it a try!

4. Nasi Goreng

As for this, this is Indonesian fave food. Because it's actually very easy to cook and very cheap to order/buy and it's very good. Rice mixed with veggies and egg and chicken. The price range is between IDR 13K/portion if you buy street food. If you buy it in a restaurant it will be more but there are so much varieties.

5. Mcd/KFC/Burger King

Why? Because while in Europe I noticed that we couldn't find the chicken and rice package like we have in Indonesia. The fried chicken is so good here you should try.

6. Sate Ayam

This is chicken skewer but it's so special because of the sauce. Yep they're using peanut sauce and it's so good!

7. Beverages (Coffee, Bubble Tea, etc.)

There  are so many options that you can find e.g. Chatime, Kopi Kenangan, etc.

I can't tell you my preference since I usually buy something depend on my mood for example when I'm in the mood for mango smoothies I'll order Chatime, Avocado milk form Kopi Kenangan, Taro milk form Esteh Indonesia, etc.  For coffees there are so many to choose, it's not only about Starbucks anymore :D

Those are only some of my recommendations and it based on my hubby preferences as a Bule :D

I'll add more 😉 and I'll ad pictures later.

What else now?

Let's move on and talk about different things.

How's exactly life in Bali?

How's life in Bali?

Here some useful information for those who wanna stay for a longer time in Bali or Indonesia.

Actually you will only realized one thing, staying here in Indonesia you're being spoiled. Do you know why? Everything is so easy. Just use your phone and you'll get  everything.

1. Accommodation

There are so many hotels/apartments or Monthly room rent that you can find. From the cheapest to most expensive one villa. Choose which one you can afford :D for a monthly room you can rent start from range IDR 2,5mio/monthly to IDR 12mio/monthly. It depends on your need. from a studio room to two bedrooms apartments.

2. Transportation

You can rent bike/car or use online application Gojek/Grab like Uber but there's no uber in Indonesia.

You can just use Taxi here or even rent a car or bike. For renting a bike around IDR 35k daily or IDR 35k monthly and car IDR 350k- 500k daily

3. Food

Easy and cheap. Go whatever you want or just simply order Grabfood, GoFood or even ShopeeFood.

Just move your finger on your phone and choose what you wanna eat. The food will be delivered to your place. I know it's not easy for foreigner but just simply download the app and everything will be easier for you for everything that you need. Try to do like a local😛

Indonesian food

Ordering food all the time

Yummy rice box!

4. Groceries

You can even order groceries using those application like Grabmart/Gomart, no need to go to the groceries if you're lazy or it's too far away. Oh my so spoiled 😂 When we traveled to Morocco I often order using Glovo app because the delivery was cheap there. It's the same in Indonesia the delivery fee is so  affordable. Unlike in Europe :D when i was in Portugal it's very rare to order food or groceries. We weren't spoiled there and actually it's good 😜

5. GoMed

If you're feeling sick. For a preventive simple measure you can just use Halodoc on GoMed and consult with your doc. You can even buy simple medicine and make appointment thru this app.

6. Laundry

Here for the laundry you don't need to wash it by yourself. Simply put the clothes to the nearest laundry and they will clean and iron it for a day. Usually they charge IDR 8K/per kilo. So cheap. But only use it for your daily clothes. For dress and clothes like that choose different place to wash. Fyi, even for the shoes you can put  it in the laundry for shoes and they will clean it  for you. The next day you  can just pick it up guys.

7. Tours

There are  so many tours to join and the price is very affordable. You wanna do a day trip or tour package? Just choose open or private trip using klook, traveloka or getyourguide. I did some tours using those app and some of them I arranged by myself. Usually open or join in tour will be cheaper comparing to private one.

8. Restaurants/Bars

Of course there are so many places to visit just choose wherever you want! Canggu and Seminyak area. Or if you wanna go to a cultural place I recommend you to stay in Ubud area. It's nice.

So good and healthy!

Secret info!😆

Currently we're living in an apartement. This  apartment is  very nice and affordable. They have swimming pool, gym and a cafe. The hospitality is very good. They give us free coffee monthly to redeem in the café. They clean our room everyday and change the sheet weekly. One more thing they give us free  laundry monthly up to 10kg.This apartment is very private and full of greeneries. Very nice right.!

That's why I said we're being spoiled here. Because we don't need to clean our room, wash our laundry  and if we don't wanna cook we can just simply order. Everything is in our fingertips. 😜

Nice

We stayed in Jakarta before and it's not the same. We probably won't  find something like this anywhere else. So  we will just enjoy living our ordinary days, being spoiled everyday like this until we decide where to go next.

Things to do in Bali?

Things to do in Bali

We will share about things to do in Bali from the next post. From visiting Nusa Penida Island, watching sunrise in Mt. Batur, watching Kecak dance performance etc. As for today we wanna share about surfing and strolling around Kuta and Canggu area. Are you ready?

Basically it's only hubby who surfed because I can't even swim. Yep I'm scared because I have aquaphobia. I learned swimming when I was young but I had a trauma. It's so hard for me to solve this. Unlike my akrophobia, it's already solved! :D  anyway because of it  I always go to the beach but only watch hubby from afar  lol.

Let's just start  our story!

What to do in Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu area.

1. Window shopping at Beachwalk

Bali is not like Jakarta. We can count how many shopping malls here. It's only Mall Bali Galeria, Level 21, and Beachwalk. Our favorite is Beachwalk. Because it's so close to the beach! The location is very  nice.

Yummy ice cream

Pizza time

Enjoying Indonesia food at the rooftop

We usually come here for shopping clothes or just having lunch here. There are many resturants here. Actually we also like to just sit  around and enjoy the drink in the cafe. Our favorite spot is Manamylk but unfortunately they will move to another place and they don't know yet where :( Now there's a coconut shop called Tukies. We went there twice already and coconut ice cream was so yummy!

Our fave

2. Surfing in Seminyak

Hubby suddenly said he wanted to surf. Well actually it's not the first time for him. He did it few years ago. So we were thinking whether to go and ask directly there or book thru application.

After that we decided to walk on the beach and you know what will happen! Yep the people will just come at you and offers their service. Then we decided to surf in Seminyak beach.

Kuta Beach

How much?

The cost for surfing here is around IDR 150k - 200k with the teacher. He will teach for around an hour and for another hour you are free to surf by yourself.

Surfing time

What's include?

Paying that much it's including surfing board, 1 hour lesson for beginners, they will borrow you the surfing shirt  and a place to seat.

Waiting for hubby

Legian beach

You can also do it without the teacher. So you can just rent surfing board the fee is around IDR 50k - 100k. depends on how long you wanna rent it.

Why hubby didn't buy surfing board yet? It's because we haven't decided yet whether we will permanently move to Bali. As for now we're living in an apartment and it's not a  priority because it's also rare for hubby to surf. So we decided to rent the board if hubby wants to surf.

3. Seminyak area

What to do in Seminyak area. Well there are so many things to do!

There're so many cafes, bars and restaurant in Seminyak area. You can go to Seminyak village and do window shopping there. Once you finished you can just walk around as there are so many stores around.

Sunset in Seminyak

This area is famous with the stores and restaurants so you can just stroll around until you are tired.

Keep walking around as there are so many aesthetic cafes and restaurants. You can also go to Seminyak beach and enjoy the sunset from the restaurant or bar near the beach :)

4. Canggu Area

In my opinion Canggu is crowded and loudest area. 😅 yep I just want to be honest. We came here several times but I dunno why I don't really enjoy it. But for those who like PARTY it's a nice place to go I guess!

Canggu

What to do in Canggu?

There are so many beach clubs here. Bali Finns Club is quite famous. Usually people come here to enjoy beach clubs and bars. Here is famous for PARTY!  That's why it's so loud sometimes.

As we don't  really like to go to the bars or beach clubs so we were just walking around in Canggu area.

Things to do in Canggu

I'll  give you a tips if  you don't like to go to the bars. You can just go to a convenient store and buy food and beverages there. Then you can just sit down and relax.  Enjoy your time. After that you can go and walk around to the beach. Some people also surfing in this area.

That's the story of how's our life excatly and things to do in Bali. Next we will share more about places to visit.

See ya!

Ate ja!
